Gawad Kalinga (GK) is a non-profit organization in the Philippines that provides free housing for the poor. They convert squatter villages into GK Villages. The crudely built shanties are replaced with simple homes with no cost to the homeowner. Entire squatter villages are transformed into GK Villages with a school and day care center.

The pictures above were taken in Multinational Village, Paranaque, Metro Manila. An entire squatter village of shanties made out of scrap materials was torn down and replaced by the colorful townhouses on the right.

 

 

We hold distribution events where donations of used clothing, shoes, household items, toys and children's books are distributed to residents in GK Villages. So far we have held these events at 2 GK Villages: in Bogo, Cebu and in Paranaque, Manila.
